The Yorkie poo is one of the many crossbreeds, or hybrid dogs, that have been gaining popularity over the past several years. These diminutive dogs are the result of a cross between the Yorkshire terrier and either the toy or the miniature poodle.

    Features

  1. The Yorkie poo often comes in black and tan, but also can be found in variations of beige, black, white, red or apricot. Its coat is generally low-shedding, and can be curly, wavy or straight. The dogs are usually between 4 and 9 pounds in weight, and their height varies between 6 and 10 inches at the withers.
  2. Temperament

  3. Each dog is unique, but the goal of breeding this "designer dog" is that the best traits of each breed involved will be inherited. The temperaments of both the Yorkshire terrier and the poodle should be researched by anyone interested in this hybrid, as the dominant traits of either breed may surface.
  4. Benefits

  5. The Yorkie poo is known for being a dog that loves its family, is playful, feisty, loyal and intelligent. It can fit in a dog carrier and does not need a lot of space.
  6. Considerations

  7. Yorkie poos may become nervous around younger children, so socialize your puppy early and teach your children to be gentle with their new friend. Yorkie poos, like all toy dogs, can be avid barkers.
  8. Fun Facts

  9. The American Canine Hybrid Club was founded in 1992, and they keep track of the parentage of hybrid dogs.
