Benefits of B Vitamins

B vitamins come in multivitamins, B complex vitamins and certain foods. B vitamins boost the immunity and the health of hair, skin and nails. It also helps with depression and aging. Foods rich in B vitamins include leafy green vegetables, chicken, fish, nuts and beans. The Food and Drug Administration suggests taking a 2 mg multivitamin that is high in B vitamins.

  1. Thiamin

    • Thiamin is also known as vitamin B1. Thiamin converts food to energy and helps with nerve growth and memory.

    Riboflavin

    • Riboflavin or vitamin B2 releases food's energy into the body and helps to make many of the body's hormones. Riboflavin can be found in meats, dairy products and nuts.

    Niacin

    • Niacin is also called vitamin B3. It helps the body remove toxins and keeps cholesterol in the normal range. Niacin also helps with production of hormones and can be found in foods like chicken, nuts and fish.

    Pantothenic Acid

    • Vitamin B5 is also called pantothenic acid. Vitamin B5 works with other B vitamins to help break down proteins, fats and carbohydrates. Vitamin B5 is also needed to make red blood cells and vitamin D.

    Folic Acid

    • Folic acid is often called vitamin B9. Folic acid helps cells to grow, prevents birth defects and prevents heart disease.
