- The entire deck is dealt out in eight columns of overlapping cards. The four left-hand columns have seven cards, and the right-hand columns have six.
- At the top right of the display are four empty foundation cells. Each cell must be built up from ace through king in one suit each.
- At the top left of the display are four empty "free" cells to hold cards temporarily. You can place any exposed tableau card there, but you can't build up or down--just one card can go in each cell.
- The object of the game is to build from ace to king on all four foundation cells. If that is accomplished, you win. If you get stuck before reaching that point, the game is over.
- Move cards one at a time either to a foundation, another stack or to a free cell. Any card you move to a stack must be placed on the next higher card, in the alternate color. For example, you would put a black queen on a red king, and then a red jack on the black queen, all the way down to two, if necessary.
- Any card can be placed at the top of an empty column.
