Speed Stacks is a brand name of cups used in a sport stacking game. Sport stacking is a timed competition of stacking plastic cups into a tower and unstacking them into set number single stacks. Speed Stacks has developed worldwide fame with annual competitions.

History

Speed Stacks was founded by Bob Fox in 1995. He was an elementary school teacher who noticed the benefits sport stacking skills could bring to children. After developing Speed Stacks, Fox stopped teaching and began promoting Speed Stacks to schools.
Cups

The Speed Stack cups are manufactured from plastic and look similar to a regular disposable drinking cup. There are three holes in the bottom of the cup to allow air to flow through easier when unstacking.

Benefits

There are several benefits to Speed Stacks for children. The hand-eye coordination skill improves with practice. Ambidexterity and quickness are also increased with using Speed Stacks. The sport stacking competitions also help to foster self-esteem in children.

Traditionally, Speed Stack competitions are played in schools. There are over 20,000 schools in the U.S. that have included Speed Stacks in the physical education program. Now Speed Stack competitors are from all over the world and span all ages.

The World Sport Stacking Association (WSSA) exists to standardize the rules and guidelines of Speed Stack tournaments and competitions.
