Job Description for a Hotel Chambermaid

Hotel chambermaids also may be referred to as including maids, housekeepers, hospitality specialists, room attendants and cleaners. The responsibilities of a hotel chambermaid involve linens, cleaning, replenishing, reporting and customer service.

  1. Linens

    • Each day, hotel chambermaids visit guest rooms to change linens. This involves stripping the beds, gathering any dirty towels, making the bed with fresh sheets and hanging unused towels on the racks in the bathroom.

    Cleaning

    • In guest rooms, hotel chambermaids are required to vacuum carpeting; mop marble or tile floors; wash windows, television screens, mirrors and other glass; change light bulbs; clean sinks, toilets, showers and tubs; remove garbage; and dust surfaces.

    Replenishing

    • Hotel chambermaids also replenish any supplies that guests may have used. These include complimentary items, such as coffee, tea, creamer, and toiletries, or fee-for-service items, such as those found in a minibar.

    Reporting

    • Hotel chambermaids report any usage of fee-for-service items, as well as damage to the room or its contents and theft to supervisory staff so that the guest can be charged accordingly. In addition, hotel chambermaids ensure that all appliances, water and heating and cooling systems in guest rooms are functioning properly before new guests arrive.

    Customer Service

    • Hotel chambermaids may perform various types of customer service for guests, such as delivering newspapers or extra pillows, linens and toiletries; providing turn-down service for beds; picking up laundry, dry cleaning or ironing; and shining shoes.
