Home Remedies for Whiteheads & Cysts

When oil, known as sebum, accumulates in the skin's pores, it becomes hard and forms a tiny, raised white spot. These spots, commonly called whiteheads, are actually very small cysts. Although they can form anywhere on the body, these whiteheads, as well as blackheads, are usually located on the face, especially the forehead, cheeks, nose and temples. Below are some home remedies which may help to clear or prevent whiteheads and cysts.

  1. Fenugreek

    • Make a paste of water and fresh fenugreek leaves. Apply this to your face at night, and wash off in the morning using warm water. This should help to prevent whiteheads, as well as blackheads and pimples, and will also prevent dryness and wrinkles.

    Steam Bath

    • Open up the pores of your face by steaming it weekly, or more often if you wish. After steaming, use a gel or face pack containing alpha hydroxyl fruit acids.

    Orange Peel Scrub

    • Place orange peel in the sun, or a food dehydrator, and grind to a powder when completely dry. Mix to a paste with milk and rosewater, and apply this to your face. Leave until semidry, and massage.

    Aspirin

    • Crush six aspirin tablets and mix to a paste with a quarter of a teaspoon of distilled water. Wash your face using warm water, then apply the aspirin paste. Leave on for fifteen minutes and wash off using warm water. Use this paste twice a day.

    Water

    • Drinking lots of water daily will help to keep your skin clear. If you also consume plenty of fresh fruit and juices, your skin and your general health will benefit.
