The Effect That Light Has on Plants
Light is vital to plant life. Think of how humans react to light, and the negative effects humans experience if not exposed to adequate light. When sunshine comes in contact with the skin, vitamin D is produced. How would you feel if you never got any sunlight or any source of light? The same theory applies to plants. Without light, plants cannot survive. Does this Spark an idea?

Sunlight
-
Plants such as the hibiscus require over eight hours of sunlight each day to flower. Sunlight is the key to plant survival, because plants use sunlight to make food by combining energy from light with water and carbon dioxide.
Plant Grow Lights
-
Incandescent plant grow lights basically have no effect on plants. They are basically used to highlight a group of plants or a single plant.
Another type of grow light is the fluorescent light. These are very popular and have all positive effects on plants, such as increased plant growth. -
Light Duration
-
Light duration is the amount of time that the plant spends in light. The amount of light varies from plant to plant and depends on the species. Roses, lilies and gladiolas, to name a few, need full sun to bloom.
Light Quality
-
The quality of light refers to the color of light. It is said that red and blue light have the best overall effect on plants. Green light has no effect. Blue light is for greener foliage.
Significance
-
When plants are exposed to light, it is thoroughly absorbed through the leaves and new cell growth is encouraged. The more cell growth that is promoted, the greener the foliage. This also means more bud formation and blooms. Light nourishes plants.
