A PDF file is a document in Adobe's Portable Document Format. A PDF translator is a software program that can work two ways: translating existing word processing or other documents to PDF format, and translating PDF documents into other formats.

    Why PDF?

  1. Adobe's PDF format is the most common multiple-platform document format in use today. The company's Acrobat Reader for PDF files is a standard utility on any up-to-date computer system.
  2. International Standard

  3. Because of the format's worldwide use and universal scope, in July 2008 Adobe turned control of the Portable Document Format specification over to the International Standard Organization. It is available for review as ISO 32000-1.
  4. Translating to PDF

  5. Translating a word processing document, spreadsheet or even a presentation to PDF format is as simple as printing it. A number of freeware translators or commercially sold PDF printing packages are available.
  6. From PDF to Other

  7. Like PDF printers, a number of software packages are available to translate PDF documents into documents readable by word-processing packages, presentation software and even into HTML web pages.
  8. Small Footprint

  9. One of the main reasons for the PDF's popularity is its small footprint. The format uses a complex and patented compression technique to make the documents small enough to be transferred by almost any system.
