Using silicone pans for baking is an alternative to metal and glass pans. Silicone is promoted for its ease of product removal and healthier baking, because no greasing of the pan is needed. Silicone pans are also stain-free and odor-proof.

    Safety

  1. The silicone used in baking pans is FDA approved food-grade silicone.
  2. Warning

  3. Some consumers have reported fumes from silicone baking pans when they are heated.
  4. Claims

  5. According to Chefsresource.com, silicone tube cake pans are non-stick. Yet many consumers find that tube cake silicone pans need to be sprayed with cooking spray before use.
  6. Considerations

  7. Due to the flexibility of silicone baking pans, a tube pan with batter in it will be wobbly, and difficult to put into your oven.
  8. Prevention/Solution

  9. Use a metal cookie sheet under the silicone tube pan to stabilize the pan.
  10. Other complaints

  11. Consumers report that baking time in silicone tube cake pans is longer than in a metal pan. Cake browning does not occur, and even with extended baking time, sometimes the cake comes out undercooked in the middle.
