L Glutathione Side Effects

L-gluathione is a nonprotein thiol that is found in the body. The compound plays an important role in detoxification, and can protect cells from free radical damage. Long-term side effects remain unknown, because this compound is still undergoing research trials.

  1. Function

    • L-glutathione is an antioxidant involved in the metabolism of carbohydrates. It is responsible for stimulating CD8 cells, which play a role in the health and growth of the body's tissues. This antioxidant also plays an important role in the detoxification of the liver.

    Features

    • L-glutathione is not an essential nutrient because it is synthesized from amino acids L-cysteine, glycine and L-glutamic acid.

    Theories/Speculation

    • Some studies have also suggested that L-glutathione supplementation may help reduce the effects of diabetes, lung disorders, male infertility and disease that occurs from environmental toxins. Still, indications for use and supplementation requirements are not very well known.

    Effects

    • Some researchers claim that L-glutathione may have anticancer effects when administered intravenously. Athletes and bodybuilders who undertake hard training can deplete glutathione levels, and in these cases, L-glutathione supplementation may be beneficial for optimal performance and for building muscle. Others claim that L-glutathione pills have the ability to whiten the skin, but these claims are unconfirmed and not backed by scientific research.

    Benefits

    • L-glutathione can be administered intravenously for people who are suffering from liver problems or experiencing early signs of cataracts. L-glutathione may also be taken as a nutritional supplement by bodybuilders and athletes who want to enhance performance and improve their health, detoxify their livers and improve healthy cell functioning. Short-term and long-term side effects remain unknown.
