What Is a Tricep Pushup?
-
Tricep pushups are push-ups with the hands placed closer together on the floor.
Tricep Benefits
-
Tricep pushups put more emphasis on the triceps muscles of the arm than the chest. There are only so many ways to work that small muscle area. Having a variety of exercises will challenge the muscle from different angles.
-
Chest Benefits
-
The chest is also worked with the tricep pushup, as with any pushup. The pectoralis muscles of the chest will be worked differently than with a regular pushup. Adding variety to your routine will keep your muscles challenged.
How to Execute
-
To do a tricep pushup, first set your body up in a regular pushup position. Your hands will be on the floor supporting your upper body. Your lower body will be supported by your toes on the floor. Your back should be straight, with your core tight. Now, bring the hands closer together, with thumbs touching. Lower your body to the floor, as close as you can get without touching the floor.
Hints
-
Keep your elbows tucked in close to the body during the entire movement. This will keep the focus on the tricep muscle rather than the chest muscles.
Form
-
Keep the entire body tight while performing the pushup. The back should not dip in, the belly should not dip toward the floor. Keep the core tight while going through the full range of motion of the pushup.
