Signs of Drug Addiction Denial
Drug addiction can strike virtually anyone. Despite common stereotypes, it doesn't limit itself to a certain age, sex, race or socioeconomic status. This problem is especially challenging to deal with because many drug addicts get stuck in denial and refuse to admit their problem or the effects it is having on them and the people around them. By not admitting the problem, they can avoid facing the need to stop using the drugs.

Definition
-
A drug addiction is generally defined as compulsive drug use. This is usually accompanied by physical and/or psychological dependence on the drug.
Warning
-
A drug addict who is in denial will often go to great lengths to hide her drug addiction. Instead of taking responsibility for her actions, she will cast herself as a victim.
-
Effects
-
Drug addiction can have devastating effects on a person's life. These can include financial problems, job loss, destruction of personal relationships and health issues.
Signs
-
You can tell a drug addict is in denial when he refuses to admit his addiction or to take responsibility for its effects, even after repeated problems surface and affect his life and the lives of those who surround him.
Solution
-
Although you cannot force a drug addict to get help, you can refuse to be an enabler of his denial. You must hold him accountable for his actions and force him to deal with the consequences rather than helping to smooth them over.
