The Army provides important benefits for its enlisted members' children. These benefits are not easily available or affordable in the civilian sector.

    Time Frame

  1. Children will receive benefits until the age of 21, or up to 23 if a child is attending school full time.
  2. Health Care

  3. All medical care is provided through the Tricare health plan (see Resources). Children with special needs are provided additional assistance from the Exceptional Family Member Program.
  4. Dental

  5. Tricare offers complete dental insurance for dependents (see Resources).
  6. Education

  7. Dependents can qualify for in-state fees at participating colleges, thus reducing tuition fees. Dependents can also use Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges to earn a degree (see Resources).
  8. Other Benefits

  9. Dependents can use military installation privileges by shopping the Commissary, Post Exchange and using MWR services, such as the bowling center, library, youth centers, education center and craft facilities.
