The NASDAQ has over 2,800 companies listed and trading on its exchange. Most of these companies are in technology based industries, but there are numerous transportation, industrial and service companies listed as well.

Overview of NASDAQ

The NASDAQ stands for the National Association of Securities Dealers Automated Quotations. It was founded as an over the counter stock market by the National Association of Securities Dealers in 1971.

NASDAQ Ticker

NASDAQ listed stocks have four letter ticker symbols. Some exceptions include stocks with an A, B, Q, or E as the fifth letter, and some stocks that were previously listed on the NYSE that had two- or three-ticker symbols.

Notable Technology Companies

Some notable technology companies listed on the NASDAQ include Apple Inc, Dell, Intel, Microsoft, Research In Motion and Google.

Notable Non-Technology Companies

Notable non-technology companies listed on the NASDAQ include Wynn Resorts, News Corporation, United Airlines, and Bed, Bath and Beyond.

Nasdaq Composite

The NASDAQ Composite is a composite index made up of all the stocks listed on the NASDAQ exchange.
