Symptoms of Rheumatoid Arthritis in Hands

Rheumatoid arthritis is a progressive condition that causes joints to become inflamed and painful. Rheumatoid arthritis of the hand often affects the wrists or knuckles, but can affect any of the joints of the hands. There are a few symptoms that are characteristic of rheumatoid arthritis in the hand.

Pain

Rheumatoid arthritis of the hands causes pain in the joints that can be dull or burning. This pain often occurs after use and can also occur in the morning.

Inflammation

The inflammation caused by rheumatoid arthritis can lead to a numb or tingling feeling. It can also make the joint warm to the touch.

Crepitation

Crepitation is the sensation of grinding in a joint and can be a symptom of rheumatoid arthritis in the hand.

Cysts

Small cysts in the end joints of the fingers can be a symptom of rheumatoid arthritis.

Deformity

Rheumatoid arthritis in the hand can cause the fingers to become deformed.
