Side Effects of the Cambridge Diet

The Cambridge Diet originated almost 40 years ago in England. The diet consists of taking in a very small amount of calories, combined with supplements. The low calorie intake can result in several side effects.

  1. Constipation

    • The Cambridge diet is primarily liquid-based, so the lack of solid food can cause constipation. If you follow this diet, it is recommended that you take extra fiber to ease these symptoms.

    Headaches

    • Headaches generally last the first couple of days on the diet because of the lack of carbohydrates. This symptom will generally go away after the first two or three days.

    Nausea

    • The supplements taken with the program can cause temporary bouts of nausea. Drinking more water can help with the discomfort.

    Bad Breath

    • Once the body begins burning fat for energy after a few days on the diet, your body is in a state of ketosis. Ketosis can cause bad breath as a result of the body burning fat for fuel.

    Lack of energy

    • The extremely low amount of calories you are taking in on the diet can cause a drop in energy. This is an expected side effect, exercise is discouraged while on the plan.
