Alternative Treatments for Psoriasis
Several herbs and plants contain skin-healing properties and can be used to make topical preparations. When applied to affected areas, these alternative treatments can help keep psoriasis outbreaks under control.

Comfrey (Symphytum Officinale)

Comfrey contains allantoin, a protein that speeds up cell renewal. Use flowering tops, leaves and roots.
Marigold (Calendula Officinalis)

Marigold has anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties. Use flowering tops.

Nettle (Urtica Dioica)

Nettles contain anti-allergic properties. The leaves, roots and seeds are used in herbal remedies.
St. John's Wort (Hypericum Perforatum)

Used topically, St. John's wort is an anti-inflammatory that promotes healing. Use the flowering tops when in full flower.

Never use ornamental marigolds to make herbal remedies. Use only calendula officinalis.
Essential or volatile oils are more concentrated than infused oil. Never put essential or volatile oils directly onto skin.
