What Are the Parts of a Door Lock?

Door locks are an important safety feature of any door and careful consideration should go into choosing the right one. Locks come in several different styles and are easy to install. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Knob

    • The inside knob has a locking button that will either turn or push to lock. The outside knob will have a keyhole.

    Dead latch

      A dead latch is also called a cylindrical dead latch. It fits into the side of the door so that the door knobs join together through the latch. It will retract or engage with a key.

    Strike plate

      The strike plate attaches to the door frame and is aligned with the dead latch.

    • The rose insert is a plate that is placed between the door and the inside knob.

    Key

    • The key will be used to lock and unlock the door from the outside.
