Mantle cell lymphoma is a kind of Non-Hodgkin lymphoma, or cancer of the lymph nodes. It affects lymphocytes called B cells, which help the body fight off infection. Mantle cell lymphoma causes uncontrolled growth of these B cells. Mutated cells may flow through the lymphatic system and cause tumors in other lymph nodes throughout the body.

    B Symptoms

  1. Mantle cell lymphoma can cause "B symptoms," a collection of symptoms that resemble the flu or mono. They include fever, night sweats and weight loss.
  2. Lymphadenopathy

  3. About 90 percent of patients exhibit lymphadenopathy, or swelling of the lymph nodes. Multiple lymph nodes may be enlarged in mantle cell lymphoma.
  4. Abdominal Distension

  5. Mantle cell lymphoma can cause the liver and spleen to swell significantly, which in turn may cause abdominal distension and tenderness.
  6. Fatigue

  7. Fatigue is common in patients with "bulky" tumors, or lymph node masses larger than 10 centimeters. Mantle cell lymphoma may also cause anemia, which contributes to feelings of tiredness.
  8. Extranodal Symptoms

  9. Other symptoms may be present if the cancer has affected lymph nodes that are part of other bodily symptoms. Common sites for extranodal involvement include the lungs, the gastrointestinal tract and the central nervous system.
