Uses for Serrapeptase

Serrapeptase is an enzyme that occurs naturally in the silkworm. Over the past 30 years, scientists have explored the many benefits Serrapeptase has to offer people.

  1. Formation

    • In nature, the silkworm makes Serrapeptase in the intestines to break down cocoon walls. This led scientists to believe that it could be used to break down unwanted things (such as clots) in the human body. First, they had to find a way for the enzyme to be absorbed by the body without the stomach enzymes destroying it. Serrapeptase is taken by enteric-coated tablets, which allow it to pass from the stomach to the intestine and then to the bloodstream, where it is most effective.

    Function

    • When part of the body is injured, fluids build up around the injury. Serrapeptase thins that fluid, thus making it easier for the fluid to drain. It can stop the release of pain-inducing animes, which in turn relieves pain. In addition, Serrapeptase has qualities that allow it to eat away at dead or damaged tissue without harming healthy tissue.

    Primary Uses

    • Most of the uses for Serrapeptase are based on its ability to work as an anti-inflammatory and provide pain relief. It is used by those suffering from arthritis, Fibromyalgia and osteoarthritis. Serrapeptase can be used to relieve the pain and swelling associated with fibrocystic breast disease and even after surgical procedures.

    Other Uses

    • Serrapeptase can be used as a pain reliever for those suffering from sinusitis, but it also breaks down the mucus in the nasal cavity and makes it thinner, and therefore easier to expel from the body. Besides breaking down mucus, Serrapeptase has been found to remove plaque in the arteries and to dissolve blood clots. This is important for anything from stroke prevention to diminishing varicose veins.

    Side Effects

    • Serrapeptases does not have the side effects of NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs), which is why it is commonly used in place of ibuprofen or Celebrex. However, there are two important things to consider: first, Serrapeptase has been used in Europe only for about 30 years and has been marketed in the United States only since 1997, so the research could be considered somewhat limited; secondly, there have been cases of lung problems or gastrointestinal irritation when the drug has been used over a long period of time.

    Warning

    • As with any health supplement, talk to a doctor before taking Serrapeptase.
