What Is a Hot Tub Rash?
Hot tub rash, also known as dermatitis, is an infection that affects the skin. Common symptoms are skin that is itchy or sore with a red rash. It is often caused by a germ called Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

Causes
-
Hot tub rash comes from swimming in contaminated water. Since a swimsuit retains water, it allows the infected water closer contact with the skin for a longer time. It is not limited to hot tubs, but contaminated pools and lakes too.
Other Symptoms
-
Besides the typical red rash, hot tub rash can also present itself as blisters filled with pus around the hair follicles.
-
Hot Tubs
-
Because the water in hot tubs is warm, disinfectants and chlorine have shorter lifespans. This allows contaminants and germs to grow with more ease.
Prevention/Solution
-
Frequent testing for pH and disinfecting your hot tub will help cut down the risk of getting hot tub rash.
Treatment
-
Usually the rash will go away on its own in a few days. In severe cases, a topical cream will be prescribed by a doctor.
