What Is the Definition of a Steam Boiler Furnace?

While steam has long been a product of nature, it took centuries for man to harness its power. Through the industrial revolution, steam technology became more common, but even after more advanced technology became commonplace, steam technology, particularly in boilers and furnaces, still remained a part of the industrial arsenal. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Definition

    • A steam boiler furnace is a furnace that uses a boiler to generate steam, much as an electric furnace would. A steam boiler furnace comes in several parts, however.

    Furnace

    • The part of the boiler that actually creates the heat is called the furnace. The furnace creates heat, usually by burning a fuel such as natural gas or oil.

    Boiler

    • The other half is the boiler. The boiler uses the heat from the furnace to change water into steam.

    Steam

    • The steam generated by the steam boiler furnace can be used for a variety of purposes. Though useful to heat one's home or business, the steam can still be used to power steam engines or other, similar tasks.

    Cost

    • Steam boilers that run off of natural gas or fossil fuels have grown more expensive over the years. However, models that operate off of renewable energy are becoming popular, and though currently expensive, advancements are still being made.
