While Fibromyalgia tends to affect more women than men, men suffer from their own particular set of symptoms. Fibromyalgia symptoms in men range from pinpointed pain to decreased physical function that can affect their quality of life.

    Pain

  1. Pain associated with Fibromyalgia in men is related to pressure points, tender areas on the neck, back, hips, legs, arms and shoulders. The pain will often radiate out from those points.
  2. Fatigue

  3. Fatigue related to Fibromyalgia can be debilitating in men, causing an intense brain fog in which productive thought or action is either impossible or very difficult.
  4. Sleep Problems

  5. Often men will experience disturbed sleep, or sleep that is not restful due to Fibromyalgia.
  6. Other Symptoms

  7. Irritable Bowel Syndrome, sensitive skin, restlessness, jaw pain and chronic headaches are other symptoms of men who suffer from Fibromyalgia.
  8. Quality of Life

  9. Lisa Lorden of TalkAboutSleep.com writes that men suffer from a lowered quality of life due to pain from Fibromyalgia. They may also experience depression because their expected role of breadwinner is compromised.
  10. Treatment

  11. According to NIAMS, Fibromyalgia requires a "team approach" to control. A physician is a good place to start, but physical therapy and a pain or rheumatology clinic are effective as well.
