Crystal glasses bring elegance to any table and they are normally reserved for formal dining. However, if you enjoy a glass of champagne, wine, port, sherry,liqueur, or an after dinner brandy, there is no reason not to treat yourself to purpose-made crystal glasses and use them every day. Significance of Champagne

Throughout its history, champagne has been the drink of celebration and crystal champagne glasses are used accordingly, for toasts at weddings, birthdays, anniversaries and other special events. The champagne coupe or saucer shown here has a round bowl, while the more modern style of champagne flute has a tall and narrow bowl.

Crystal liqueur or cordial glasses also appear with or sometimes after the dessert course. Liqueur glasses are the smallest and daintiest among crystal glasses. This one is about 4 inches tall by about 2 inches across.There are numerous types of liqueur, primarily blends, including creams, herbs and spices, fruits, coffee and chocolate.

A before or after dinner sherry is a very pleasant treat, especially when it is served in a traditional, flared opening crystal glass made for sherry. The sherry glass is similar in design to the port wine glass, but taller and larger. This one is about 5-1/2 inches tall by about 3 inches across. There are different kinds of sherry, from dry to sweet, made from white grapes.

A brandy snifter is usually held by the bowl to keep the brandy warm and aromatic, hence the short stem. This snifter is about 4-1/2 inches tall by about 2-1/2 inches across.
