Side Effects of Clindamycin for Urinary Infections

Clindamycin is a prescription antibiotic used to treat an array or bacterial infections, including urinary infections. It should be taken orally with a full glass of water, and users should not lie down for at least 30 minutes after taking it. Many doctors prescribe Clindamycin to be taken four times each day, once every 6 hours. As with all antibiotics, it's important to take the full course of Clindamycin even if you're feeling better.

Diarrhea

Mild diarrhea is sometimes experienced by people taking Clindamycin, but severe or persistent diarrhea or blood or mucous in the stool should be reported to your doctor.

Infrequent Urination

Some people taking Clindamycin for a urinary infection will notice a significant decrease in urine output. This is no cause for concern.

Stomach Trouble

Nausea and vomiting are known side effects of Clindamycin, but severe stomach cramps could be an indication of a complication and should be reported to your doctor.

Jaundice

Jaundice, a yellowing of the skin and eyes, is an indication of a serious liver problem. If you notice jaundice while taking Clindamycin, report it to your doctor immediately.

Other Serious Side Effects

Tell your doctor if you experience a persistent sore throat or joint pain while taking Clindamycin.
