Requirements to Receive the Incentive Rebate When on SSI Disability

In May 2009, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 distributed an incentive rebate of $250 to more than 52 million Americans receiving various types of government aid. To receive the rebate, a person on SSI Disability must meet certain requirements.

  1. Eligibility

    • A person must have received SSI Disability during the months of November 2008, December 2008 or January 2009.

    Medicaid Exclusion

    • A person receiving SSI Disability while in a care facility and also receiving Medicaid is not eligible for the incentive rebate.

    Age

    • Disabled children receiving SSI Disability are eligible for the rebate if they meet all other requirements.

    Address of Record

    • A person receiving SSI Disability must have an address in any of the 50 United States, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam, the U.S. Virgin Islands, American Samoa or the Northern Mariana Islands.

    Restrictions

    • A person who has had benefits suspended due to providing misleading information is not eligible for the incentive. Additionally, a person who is imprisoned or in violation of probation or parole cannot receive the rebate.

    Limitations

    • A person is only eligible to receive one rebate. Those already receiving rebates from Social Security, Railroad Retirement or Veterans benefits are not eligible for a second rebate from SSI.
