Effects of a Posture Brace

Office workers often slouch over their desks. This position results in poor posture and can contribute to back pain. There are many ways to correct poor posture, and a posture brace is one such option.

  1. Muscles

    • These braces help to keep muscles in a certain position. Shoulder braces, for example, make a person less likely to slouch in front of a computer keyboard.

    Weight Loss

    • Because posture braces cause muscles to contract, which burns a small amount of calories throughout the day, wearing a posture brace can lead to weight loss.

    Back Pain

    • Back pain can be caused by poor posture. Posture braces, when used correctly, can alleviate back pain and prevent it from recurring.

    Discomfort

    • People unused to wearing posture braces may find it difficult to adjust to wearing one for the first day or so. The discomfort will eventually go away and the shoulders and back will start to feel better.

    Exercises

    • People who do not wish to wear a brace can do posture-correcting exercises, but these must be done on a regular basis to provide any benefit. Braces eliminate the need to perform these exercises.
