Types of Exterior Window Shutters

Exterior window shutters come in several styles and are made of wood, vinyl, metal or a composite of wood and vinyl. Exterior window shutters come in a wide variety of sizes to fit any size window.

  1. Louvered

    • Louvered Shutters

Louvered shutters have horizontal slats that are permanently slanted at an angle to let air in. They can one panel from top to bottom or two small panels with a wide strip if material between.

    Raised Paneled

    • Raised paneled shutters have center panels that are thicker than the rest of the shutter. Raised paneled shutters look very much like a kitchen cabinet door.

    Board-N-Batten

    • Board-N-Batten shutters are wood slats that are arranged vertically either close together or with a space in between the slats. The slats are attached to two thicker pieces of wood laid horizontally across them (one near the top and one near the bottom).

    Bahama

    • Bahama shutters look similar to a louvered shutter. Bahama shutters have a narrower frame and, instead of being divided horizontally, they have a narrow panel dividing them vertically.

    Accordion Shutters

    • Accordion shutters are used as protection from fierce storms. They work just like an accordion, pulling out from one side to the other and folding up to be almost invisible.
