What Are the Symptoms of a Hip Flexor Problem?

The hip flexors are a group of muscles located in the hips and upper thigh that allow for flexibility in the hip and knee. This muscle group also helps stabilize the legs. The hip flexors can sustain injury or strain if overworked or not properly stretched. Here are a few symptoms of a hip flexor problem.

  1. Stiff Legs

    • A hip flexor problem is usually indicated by an inability to lift the legs or knees. Trying to lift the legs can be extremely painful.

    Immobility

    • A hip flexor injury can cause immobility by making it difficult, painful or practically impossible to walk or run.

    Swelling

    • Swelling, redness and tenderness in the hip area may be an indication of a hip flexor injury.

    Bruising

    • The hip flexor muscles may show bruising through the skin if they are injured, indicating a problem with the muscle.

    Spasm

    • Though spasms are a rare symptom, the hip flexor muscles may convulse or twitch after a strain or injury.
