What Is a Slingbox?

Slingbox TV is a TV streaming device produced by Sling Media of San Mateo, California. A Slingbox lets you watch and control your home's cable, satellite, personal video recorder or DVD player from the Internet.

Slingbox Software

SlingPlayer software must be downloaded or purchased from Sling Media (www.slingmedia.com) that accompanies the box. This software allows access from PC computers, MAC computers and mobile devices such as cell phones.

Types of Slingboxes

Slingbox Classic allows the viewer standard access to her TV programming. There are also Slingboxes that allow access to HD or regular content from a cable set-top box, shows that have been recorded to a DVR and DVDs that are in the DVD player.

Slingbox Uses

A Slingbox connects a user's home TV to the Internet, which allows access to the TV programming that the user has subscribed to, either through his cable or satellite provider as well as shows that have been recorded on his DVR. This allows the user to access these items through either a computer on the Internet or his mobile phone.

How is This Different From Internet TV?

Slingbox TV brings the users their own personal TV experience, right from their own home or office. Internet TV is a group of individual television channels and shows that broadcast on the Internet. To see these shows you must access them through individual websites.

Additional Slings

These features can be added onto Slingbox TV: SlingCatcher allows the user to send any video that is on her computer screen and play it on her TV. SlingLink provides network security for Sling users.
