Signs of Lung Cancer in a Non-Smoker

Lung cancer is the leading cancer killer in the United States, according to the American Lung Association. However, smokers aren't the only ones who get lung cancer. In fact, 13 percent of lung cancer deaths are non-smokers. Lung cancer in non-smokers can be caused by exposure to secondhand smoke, radon, asbestos and other hazardous materials and chemicals. In about 25 percent of cases, people with lung cancer experience no symptoms.

Cough

A cough that doesn't go away is a sign of lung cancer.

Breathing Difficulties

Wheezing or feeling short of breath for no reason is a sign of lung cancer.

Chest Pain

Chest pain or pressure in the chest is a symptom of lung cancer.

Coughing Up Blood

Coughing up any amount of blood is a sign of lung cancer and should be checked by your doctor.

Hoarseness

If your voice suddenly becomes hoarse for no known reason, you could be exhibiting a sign of lung cancer.
