Creative Interior Design Jobs

Designing home interiors is only one of the many jobs open to creative interior designers who have built their reputations. Others include the interiors of hotels, lodges, inns and resorts, boutique spas and stores, restaurants, advertising agencies, art galleries, law firms, doctors offices, and corporate offices. However, these are the normal design commissions. There are others that involve another type of imagination and creativity. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Function

    • Interior designers bring an artist's eye and sensibilities--along with practical structural design and problem solving expertise--to the job of creating a functional, pleasing setting for any interior.

    Significance

    • Interior designers showcase products, homes, store interiors, lodging accommodations and businesses to their best advantage to maximize their appeal to customers.

    Types

    • Interior designers are used to design model homes, showrooms for products, retail store displays and windows, sets in theater, movies, television shows and music videos, trade shows, and a store's interior itself is also designed by a professional designer and space planner.

    Effects

    • Interior designers know how to create permanent interiors that will withstand heavy use, but they also create interiors that are temporary illusions for trade shows or staged events.

    Potential

    • Once a designer has achieved a following, there's a chance he could someday end up with the most coveted of all interior design gigs: a show on Home and Garden television, such as "Design on a Dime," "Divine Design," "Myles of Style," and "Decorating Cents."
