Beginning Signs of Esophageal Cancer

Esophageal cancer affects the esophagus, which is the tube that connects the throat to the stomach. The cancer typically starts out with cancerous cells that invade the lower part of the esophageal lining. According to the Mayo Clinic, esophageal cancer is rare in the U.S. and more common in Africa and Asia. Also, the Mayo Clinic advises that those individuals who have previously be diagnosed with Barrett's syndrome are at a much higher risk of later developing esophageal cancer.

Swallowing Difficulties

Individuals with esophageal cancer will most likely have problems with swallowing properly.

Chest Pain

Individuals with esophageal cancer will usually feel pain or discomfort in the chest region.

Weight Loss

Those individuals affected by esophageal cancer may experience weight loss.

Fatigue

Esophageal cancer may also cause fatigue and feeling tired often.

No Symptoms

In the very early stages of esophageal cancer, individuals may not have any of the symptoms mentioned above.
