Animal Grooming Careers

There are a number of areas in which an animal groomer can work, and you can choose to work for a large company or a private business. Many of these jobs are full time, but some can be done as a part-time or side job.

  1. Kennels

    • Boarding kennels often offer grooming services. Owners will make arrangements to have their animals bathed, trimmed or brushed while they are staying at the kennel.

    Veterinary Clinic

    • Some veterinary clinics have groomers on staff. It is necessary to prepare animals for surgery, which might be as simple as trimming a dog or cat's nails.

    Shelters

    • Animal shelters need to keep animals clean in order to make them more attractive for potential adopters. Also, many animals make messes in their cages, and must be bathed.

    Pet Supply Stores

    • Pet supply stores are becoming very popular due to cheaper prices and longer hours of service. Animals are dropped off in the morning for grooming and picked up in the afternoon.

    Traveling Groomer

    • Some animal groomers will travel to customers' homes. They often have a full grooming service in a van and can bathe, trim and brush an animal in the owner's driveway.
