The U.S. Army Class A uniform is the green uniform worn for garrison duty as well as many ceremonies. In order to properly present yourself, and pass any inspections, all items of the uniform must be properly placed.

  1. Jacket: Ribbons and Regimental Insignia

    • Most decorations are worn 1/8 inch above a pocket.

Service ribbons are worn in order of precedence from left to right, centered and 1/8 inch above the left breast pocket. Unit ribbons are worn centered and 1/8 inch above the right breast pocket. Regimental distinctive insignia is worn 1/4 inch above the unit ribbons or, if no unit ribbons are present, 1/8 inch above the right breast pocket.

    Jacket: Badges and Nameplate

    • Qualification badges are worn in order of precedence, from right to left. They are positioned 1/8-inch below the top of the left pocket and 1-inch apart if there is more than one. The nameplate is worn on the right breast pocket, centered left to right and between the top of the button and the top of the pocket.

Jacket: US/Branch Insignia and Shoulder Insignia

    • Distinctive shoulder insignia should be centered on the epaulet, equidistant from the shoulder seam to the outside edge of the button, with the base toward the shoulder seam. US/Branch insignia should be 1 inch above the lapel notch, centered so that the centerline is parallel to the inside edge of the lapel.

    Shirt: Nameplate, Rank, and Tie

    • The nameplate is centered on the right shirt pocket using the same measurements as the jacket. Rank insignia should be centered on the collar of the shirt with the edges of the lower part of the rank lined up with the inside seams of the shirt collar. The tie should be tied in a half-windsor knot and hanging no shorter than 2 inches above the belt and no longer than below the belt.

    Slacks: Appearance and Belt

    • Slacks should be neatly pressed with a crease centered down the front and back of the leg. The belt must have the tipped end passing through the buckle leaving no belt fabric visible. The belt tip must be facing the left.

    Shoes and Socks

    • The socks must be black polyester. Shoes must be oxford style, three eyelet and patent leather.
