Growing Conditions

Aloes are semitropical, succulent plants and should be protected from freezing; plant them in full sun or partial shade. If given a heavy amount of light, they can also be grown indoors.

Aloes are succulents (cactus), enjoying a fast draining, fertile soil. If it is planted in a pot, use 1 to 2 inches of gravel at the bottom, and make sure there are holes for excess water to exit.
Watering

When watering during summer, the soil should be completely soaked, then allowed to dry again before re-watering. During the winter, the plant goes into a dormant stage and requires less water; fertilize in the spring with a diluted (about half strength) fertilizer.
Propagation

Aloes will have offshoots ("babies") and if left alone, these babies will root themselves near the mother plant. To propagate, simply remove one of these babies and replant elsewhere.
