What Is Moleskin Used for?
Moleskin is a type of fabric named after the skin of a mole, because of its soft, piled texture. It is usually made from heavy cotton with a twill weave, sheared and brushed on one side to form a soft nap. Moleskin can also be made from synthetics. Moleskin fabric is used for garments and adhesive bandages.

Outerwear
-
Thick moleskin fabric is windproof, because of the high density of the weave, which makes it suitable for warm outerwear.
Fabric
-
Moleskin fabric is available in a variety of colors and patterns; its thick, soft texture makes it suitable for both heavier garments and for home decorating.
-
Bandages
-
Moleskin is used to make adhesive bandages that are stuck on the feet to prevent skin abrasion and blisters.
Preventing Blisters
-
Moleskin bandages are used as a preventative to cover areas of the foot that tend to blister or have already become reddened, before a blister has formed. Moleskin prevents blisters by providing a thick cushioning layer between the skin and shoe--it is thicker and denser than regular adhesive bandages.
Foot-Care Kits
-
Adhesive moleskin bandages of different sizes are sold as part of foot-care kits. Moleskin is commonly used for preventative foot care by hikers, tennis players, runners and golfers.
Blister Care
-
If a blister has already developed, a circular, ring-shaped moleskin bandage can be placed around the blister to cushion it from further abrasion.
