What is an MDI File?
-
MDI stands for Microsoft Document Imaging, a proprietary Microsoft file format that stores raster images of scanned documents with annotations and/or metadata. The high-resolution MDI file extension format is a tag-based graphics format based on the Tagged Image File Format (TIFF).
Creating an MDI File
-
MDI files are created by the MS Office Document Image Writer.
-
Function
-
The MS Office Document Image Writer is a virtual printer that allows you to store files in a printable format until you can print them later.
Compatibility
-
It will work with Microsoft Office 2003 or above but won't automatically work with Windows Vista or Microsoft Office 2007.
How to Use
-
In Microsoft Office 2007, the Microsoft Office Document Imaging Module is not automatically installed when you install Office. You can either drop the file onto a OneNote page and read it instantly, or you can select "Add/Remove Programs," highlight Microsoft Office, find Office Tools, then follow the prompts for Microsoft Office Document Imaging.
