Natural Treatments for Tinnitus

Tinnitus, also known as "ringing in the ears," is a condition that affects millions of people, and at this point there is no cure. However, through the use of alternative treatments, the effects of tinnitus can be greatly reduced.

  1. Identification

    • Tinnitus is the perception of sound by the human ear when there is no external sound available. The American Tinnitus Association estimates that over 50 million Americans experience varying degrees of tinnitus.

    Prevention/Solution

    • According to Dr. Michael D. Seidman, various forms of vitamin B can ease the effects of tinnitus. Vitamin B1, B3 and B12 have shown to be effective in treating chronic tinnitus.

    Caffeine & Alcohol

    • Caffeine and alcohol are known to deplete the amount of magnesium found in the body. According to the American Journal of Otolaryngology, magnesium deficiency can lead to dysfunction in several bodily functions, including hearing. Reducing caffeine and alcohol consumption has been known to reduce the effects of tinnitus.

    Ginkgo Biloba

    • Ginkgo biloba is a well-known herbal remedy for memory loss, but the American Tinnitus Association indicates that ginkgo biloba can also be used to reduce the effects of tinnitus as well.

    Aspirin & Salicylate

    • Reducing the use of aspirin can help reduce chronic tinnitus, and avoiding foods that are high in salicylate, such as almonds and apples, can lessen the effects of tinnitus.
