- Select a design for your display. A basic design is to run lights along the roof line. Depending upon your home's features, you may want to add more lights to highlight other areas. Columns look attractive with lights that spiral around them, or you might want to feature a porch fence.
- Take measurements before you make your purchase to avoid making that second trip to the store.
- Many holders or fasteners are designed specifically for Christmas lights. These can be purchased at the same time as your lights.
- Use a sturdy ladder, and include a bucket to hold fasteners. It's always faster to make one trip up the ladder and have everything you need at easy access.
- Select an extension cord that is meant for outdoors and will be compatible with the wattage for your lights.
- Plug in your lights before you hang them on your house. This is your opportunity to replace any lights that are not working.
