There are many job opportunities out there for people with degrees in psychology or sociology. Most of them would require an advanced degree such as a master's in clinical psychology or social work. Below are just a few of the possible career options for people with these degrees.

    Therapist

  1. You could become a therapist or counselor with the right license. If you like working with children, there are music, art and play therapist positions. Psychotherapists can work in clinics, hospitals or have their own private practice.
  2. Social Worker

  3. Schools, hospitals, departments of social services, and nursing homes are some of the places hiring social workers. Many social workers work in clinics or private practices, too.
  4. Guidance Counselor

  5. Guidance counselors work in schools and assist students in a variety of areas. They deal with everything from poor academic performance and discipline problems to assisting with college preparations.
  6. Teacher

  7. You could teach at the college level with an advanced degree in psychology or sociology. Psychology is also a great background to have as a teacher in the public school systems.
  8. Police Officer

  9. Many police officers have psychology or sociology degrees. These degrees could help you move up the ranks faster and help you handle different crises. There are police officers designated to work domestic violence and abuse victims. A background in psychology would be a benefit there.
  10. Mental Health Technician

  11. Psychiatric hospitals are always in need of good mental health technicians with psychology or sociology degrees. Mental health techs bring patients to appointments, plan their daily activities and lead group therapy sessions.
