Types of Gender Bias & Gender Discrimination
Just because women can vote doesn't mean that gender discrimination is dead. In almost all facets of life, both males and females have to put up with gender stereotypes, bias and abuse. This is only magnified in the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) community, where traditional gender roles are usually tested to their limits. Being aware of the different types of gender bias and gender discrimination can help you fight against it.

Gender Discrimination at Work
-
Although laws prevent harassment, hiring and promotions based on gender, and other types of discrimination at work, these issues still occur and are often hard to prove. On average, women are still paid far less than men in the same job.
Pregnancy Discrimination
-
A pregnant women has all the rights that someone who is not pregnant has, but employers may try to push her out of a job or will treat her unfairly. Pregnancy discrimination can also happen outside of the workplace.

Homosexuality Issues
-
Because people in the GLBT community often don't fit traditional gender roles, they are susceptible to harassment and discrimination both at work and outside of work.
In a Relationship
-
Traditional gender roles put the husband as the main breadwinner of a family, while the woman does the cooking, cleaning, and child rearing. Some men and women have problems with partners who don't fit well in these roles, and some people will only date or marry people who do fit in traditional gender roles.
Housing
-
Laws make it illegal to rent based on gender or sex, but many landlords discriminate, since it is hard to prove.
