What to Bring to Basic Training

Ever since its inception, the military has been one of the largest employers in America. However, like any employee, all members of every branch of the services must go through basic training. The question that many prospective members ask, and quite often, is just what are the items to bring.

  1. Personal Care

    • When going to basic training, bring soap, shampoo, toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, shower shoes and an eyeglass strap if you will be wearing eyeglasses.

    Male Specific

    • Male recruits should bring shaving equipment, and shaving cream or pre-shave lotion for an electric razor.

    Female Specific

    • Female recruits should bring sanitary napkins/tampons, bras and sports bras, hair bands or bobby pins that must match their hair color, as well as a brush or comb.

    Optional

    • Optional items for recruits to bring to basic training include a calling card, stamps, watch, white socks, stationery supplies and $20 to $30.

    Varieties

    • Before shipping out for basic training, check with your recruiter as to what your branch of the service requires, and if there are any changes that you should be aware of. Each branch has different requirements, and changes are often being made to the lists of necessities.
