What Foods Should You Eat to Achieve Six Pack Abs?

There is no miracle method for getting six-pack abs. Exercise is important, but diet is about 80 percent of the equation. When body fat is low, there is little preventing the abdominal muscles from showing. To help in attaining six-pack abs, follow a healthy diet of nutrient-rich, low-calorie carbohydrates and fats as well as plenty of protein.

  1. Protein Breakdown

    • Eating enough protein is essential to building abdominal muscles. In order to find out how many grams of protein you should eat, multiply your lean body mass in kilograms by 2.75. It is also important to eat enough calories so muscle remains and fat melts away.

    Protein Sources

    • Building and maintaining muscle makes six-pack abs more visible. Lean red meat, fish, soy, eggs, yogurt and poultry provide protein. If you're having trouble eating enough, protein bars and shakes are muscle-building supplement options.

    Carbohydrates

    • Carbohydrates should be eaten in moderation. The healthiest carbohydrates are whole-grain breads and pastas and brown rice, as well as green leafy vegetables like kale, romaine lettuce and broccoli. When in doubt, select the least-refined carbohydrate.
