Vitamin A, in its oxidized form, is called retinoic acid. Important for visual acuity and bone growth in humans, Vitamin A can be absorbed through the ingestion of many animal and plant food sources.

  1. Liver

    • Chicken, turkey, beef, pork and fish liver contain some of the highest concentrations of vitamin A. A single serving can provide as much as 722 percent of the Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA) of Vitamin A for the average adult male.

    Carrots and Sweet Potatoes

    • Also a source of beta-carotene, a serving of carrots or sweet potatoes has nearly 100 percent the RDA of vitamin A.

    Leafy Green Vegetables

    • Spinach, kale, collard greens and other leafy green vegetables contain ample amounts of vitamin A, on the order of 60 percent or better of the minimum RDA.

    Eggs

    • Chicken eggs contain sufficient amounts of vitamin A to make them a viable source. One egg provides approximately 16 percent of the RDA for the average adult male.

    Tropical Fruit

    • Mangos, papayas and apricots provide anywhere from 4 to 11 percent of the RDA of vitamin A.
