Liposuction may seem to be a miracle cure for stubborn cellulite, but serious risks are associated with that type of cosmetic surgery. A little liposuction in the thighs may seem simple and fast, but bear in mind that infections, seromas, allergic reactions and infections can double or triple the recovery time. And as for those perfectly sculpted thighs? Lumps and irregular shapes have been known to occur.

Allergic Reactions

Liposuction surgery is performed while the patient is under anesthesia. The drugs used to sedate a patient, such as barbiturates and ketamine, can cause serious, or even fatal, allergic reactions.
Infections

Because liposuction requires incisions in the thighs, there is always the potential that unhealthy bacteria could enter during the healing process. If the wounds are not kept clean, the result could be a serious infection.

Blood Clots

Often after surgery, people want to sit or lie down for extended periods of time. Unless the doctor explicitly says that bed rest is a necessity, it is important to be up and walking around to prevent blood clots. Clots can occur in the legs and lungs during long periods of inactivity, and if left untreated can cause serious health conditions.
Irregular Shape

If the same amount of fat is not removed from both thighs, there is a chance that the results will be uneven. Also, if the doctor does not have enough training, the results after liposuction could be lumpy or oddly shaped thighs.
Extra Skin

If large amounts of fat are removed, the skin may be permanently stretched to accommodate the fat that is no longer in the thighs. To get rid of the extra skin, another surgery may be required to remove the flaps of skin. Another surgery means another round of anesthesia and more risk of infection from open incisions.
Seromas

If the doctor stitches the incision too tightly, fluid that would normally be expelled by the body after a surgery gets trapped under the skin. A patient with a seroma will have to make at least one return trip to the doctor's office to drain the pocket of fluid.
