Angina Symptoms in Men

Angina is the term used for pain in the body, most commonly in the chest. It typically affects men over the age of 30 with coronary artery disease. Angina can also be felt in the shoulders, arms, jaw or back.

Stable Angina

Stable angina symptoms occur when you engage in any activity that causes your heart to work harder. Symptoms may include pin jab-like pain in the chest that lasts 5 minutes or less, gets better with rest or medication and feels like indigestion.

Unstable Angina

Unstable angina occurs even while at rest. Symptoms may include pain that is more severe and lasts longer than stable angina. This type of angina may last up to 30 minutes and may not be relieved with rest or medication. It could also signal a heart attack.

Variant Angina

Variant angina often occurs during rest, is severe and can be relieved with medication. This type of angina may wake you from sleep.

Pain

Angina patients often describe the pain as squeezing, crushing, choking or smothering.

Complications

Angina can be a sign of a more serious medical condition, including heart attack, sudden cardiac death and severe arrhythmia.
