Home Remedy for Dry Cough

Coughing is a natural defense reflex which helps to clear mucous or any other irritants from the air passage. When there is a cough that is repetitive and does not produce any phlegm or mucus, it is considered to be a dry cough. A dry cough may be associated with illness such as allergies, bronchitis or other irritants. Home remedies can be used to effectively treat a dry cough.

Honey and Lemon

Honey and lemon can be used to suppress a dry cough. Mix 2 tbsp. of honey with 2 tbsp. of lemon juice. Warm and drink the mixture to relieve the dry cough.

Garlic

Garlic has been used as a home remedy to treat many types of illness. Garlic has antibiotic properties, which helps to cure a dry cough.

Aniseed

Aniseed is well known for its medicinal uses. Aniseed can be used to make a warm tea, which is effective in loosening mucous and relieving a dry cough.

Onion juice

The juice that is extracted from the onion is used to soothe chest congestion and suppress a dry cough. To use as a home remedy, extract the juice from the onion and mix 2 tsp. with 1 tsp. of honey.

Black Pepper

Black pepper is a well known home remedy for treating dry cough. Black pepper can be mixed with honey and drink to release mucus and clear the airways.
