How Do Nebulizers Work?

A nebulizer is an electrical machine designed for individuals who have asthma or another form of lung disease. Nebulizers may be mechanical or ultrasonic.

By inhaling medicine directly into the lungs, the result is faster. This method also reduces the necessary dosage of medication. It provides the same result that a larger dose would enable if swallowed in pill form.

  1. What Does It Do

    • A nebulizer converts a liquid medication into a fine mist inside of a chamber.

    How to Use a Nebulizer

    • Place the mouthpiece in your mouth or the mask over your nose and mouth. Slowly inhale and exhale until all of the medicine is out of the chamber.

    Time

    • It typically takes 8 to 10 minutes to breathe in one complete nebulizer treatment.

    Medicine Types

    • Nebulizers use medicines such as prostanoids, antibiotics, corticosteroids, and bronchodilators.

    Additional Lung Conditions

    • Nebulizers are also effective combating chronic obstructive pulmonary dysplasia (COPD), bronchiectasis, cystic fibrosis and bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD).
