Side Effects of Geodon

Geodon (Ziprasidone) is used to treat patients with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and mania. It was given the name Geodon to represent its effect of bringing patients down to Earth. However, like many medications, Geodon has a slew of side effects.

  1. Warning

    • Geodon comes with a black box, warning that it has caused death in elderly patients. Though the cause of death varied, most died from heart failure or pneumonia.

    Most Common Side Effects

    • The most common side effects from Geodon are drowsiness, headaches, dizziness and gastrointestinal events such as nausea, constipation and indigestion. Many people also experience weight gain.

    Other Common Side Effects

    • Other common side effects include exhaustion, vision problems, vomiting and chest pains.

    Serious Side Effects

    • Sometimes taking Geodon can bring on undesired results such as mania, anxiety, depression and suicidal thoughts. There may be abnormal muscle movement as well.

    Uncommon Side Effects

    • Though some people taking Geodon have reported issues with anemia, eczema and dry eyes, these symptoms are not as common.
